My Thoughts on the first 20 pages of The Old Man and the Sea
After reading the first 20 pages of The Old Man and the Sea.
The old man and the boy act like father and son more than it seems that the boy and his actual father act like father and son. It sound like they don’t get a lot of fish but they still get by with the help of friendly people.
The sail was patched with flour sacks and, furled, it looked like the flag of permanent defeat.
This line kind of says everything I thought because of how the sail was patched with flour sacks which kind of states that they must be poor if they can’t repair the sail. Then the part where it said that the sail looked like a flag of permanent defeat kind of states that they haven’t caught to many fish.
I think that later on in the story that the old man and the boy actually catch something that’s quite large.
You’re reading well - we in the English teacher world call in inferring - you’re picking up the clues the author has laid down for you and you’re interpreting them correctly.
